Heat Hot Water Efficiently and in an Environmentally Friendly Way

Dimplex hot water heat pumps are a particularly energy-efficient and cost-effective solution for generating warm water - both in new buildings and in existing buildings. They cover the need for hot water all year round and get up to 70 percent of the energy required from the surrounding air or room air; and it is completely free.

 

The Energy Saving Solution

... in Buildings with Fossil Heat Generators

If hot water heat pumps are used in addition to fossil heating, this heating can remain completely switched off in the summer months. During this time, the heat pump generates enough warm water to independently cover demand. This saves heating costs and increases the environmental friendliness of the existing fossil heating system. In addition, with a hot water heat pump, homeowners become a little less dependent on rising oil and gas prices. The combination with a heating heat pump can also make sense if the basement needs to be dehumidified or if a high-performance heating heat pump and a relatively low hot water requirement come together in a large building.

 

Buildings with Electric Heating Systems

In electrically heated buildings, the water-based heating system is usually not used. Hot water is often produced using electric wall storage tanks or instantaneous water heaters. Here too, the hot water heat pump can represent an ideal solution by reducing operating costs due to its higher efficiency.

 

The ideal installation location

Ideally, a hot water heat pump should be installed in an indoor room with a natural waste heat source, such as a boiler room or utility room. Here, the heat pump can extract a particularly large amount of heat from the room air and therefore works very efficiently. The proximity to storage rooms is also favourable, as the cold air that escapes from the heat pump after the heat pump process can be used to cool food. The room chosen for installation should have a minimum size of 20 cubic metres in order to provide sufficient energy for water heating.

 

Dehumidification of Rooms

Almost every house has a room where the laundry is dried or the heat dryer is in operation and therefore needs to be ventilated frequently to prevent mold from forming. Both the waste heat from the dryer and the moist air represent an efficient heat source for the hot water heat pump. The nice side effect: the room air is dehumidified even when the windows are closed.

Use of the Heat Source Exhaust Air

In new buildings, the hot water heat pump is often combined with controlled apartment ventilation. The air extracted from the kitchen, bathroom and toilet exhaust rooms represents an efficient heat source for the heat pump. Due to the high temperatures of around 20 °C all year round, the DHW 300VD+ can be operated with lower volume flows of 80 - 220 m³/h. Controlled supply of air is supplied to the living areas via decentralized airflow openings, for example in the windows.

A Perfect Team: Hot Water Heat Pump and Photovoltaics

The combination of a heat pump with a photovoltaic system is ideal because it can generate the electricity required to operate a heat pump in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way. In addition, the hot water heat pump uses free environmental energy and turns one kilowatt hour of self-generated electricity into several kilowatt hours of heat. The energy is stored in the hot water and can also be used in the evening - when sunlight is no longer available. Due to the low power consumption of the hot water heat pump of approx. 500W, it is possible to cover hot water production exclusively with self-generated electricity, even with low PV yield.

Functions on the Control Panel

You can quickly switch between the different functions by briefly pressing the control panel:

- “Smart” function. Heating is managed depending on estimated hot water consumption. Only part of the storage tank is kept at temperature when the device detects a lower demand for hot water.

- “Comfort” function. If there is heavy water consumption, the electric additional heater is operated simultaneously with the heat pump in order to ensure that the comfortable water temperature does not fall below a minimum comfort temperature of 38 °C.

- “Protect” function. This feature activates a weekly Legionella control cycle.

- “Electric” function. Here operation only takes place with additional electric heating.

- “Low load times” function. Operation only occurs when there is a signal at low load times.
