The new master controller from Dimplex impresses when planning large and complex systems

More performance, flexibility and individuality in the planning of heat pump systems. The use of renewable energies for heating, cooling and hot water preparation is playing an increasingly important role in apartment blocks, residential buildings and in the industrial or commercial sector.

The use of renewable energies for heating, cooling and hot water is playing an increasingly important role in apartment blocks, residential buildings and in the industrial or commercial sector. This is particularly true with regard to the efficiency and comfort of newly planned systems.

A cascade connection can bring many advantages, especially for larger buildings with high demand. While output-controlled heat pumps in the low output range can adapt optimally to the respective demand, modulation can often be difficult with larger output ranges. The cascade is a special form of heat pump operation and is always a good solution where large heating outputs are required, the heating, hot water and cooling demand fluctuates greatly or must be covered in parallel and a high system availability is expected at the same time. When planning the system, it is important to check at what output requirement several decentralised systems are preferable to a centralised large heat pump system.

In various properties, a high heating output for space heating and domestic hot water preparation is required simultaneously at certain times. On hot days, there may also be a need for continuous cooling operation, even during hot water preparation. Such requirements can usually only be met efficiently and conveniently with a cascade.

The Dimplex master controller offers flexible cascading of up to 14 heat pumps. Depending on the current requirements, these can be coupled with each other in terms of hydraulics and control technology so that they fulfil the respective task as reliably, energy-efficiently and cost-effectively as possible. In addition, air/water, brine/water and water/water heat pumps can be combined with each other as required - provided the heat pumps have a touch display.

The control of a monovalent, monoenergetic or bivalent system is thus possible with up to 29 output stages (28 compressors, 2nd heat generator) with a maximum of three central heating circuits. The control of further mixed heating circuits can be realised via the individual heat pumps. The wall-mounted master controller controls the outside temperature value centrally via a master sensor.

If centralised control of the requirements is selected with the priorities for hot water, heating, cooling and swimming pool, the respective requirement is processed with one or more heat pumps.

With decentralised control, a hot water or swimming pool requirement is processed with priority by defined heat pumps. This allows the requirements to be processed in parallel. As soon as the hot water or swimming pool request has been processed in parallel, the heat pump is also available for backup heating.

In addition to an increase in energy efficiency, operational reliability is also increased. In the event of a fault, each heat pump can take over the function of another with a centralised control system. This is because if an appliance fails or maintenance is required, the entire system remains in operation. In most cases, even with few noticeable disadvantages for users and operators. The system hydraulics must be coordinated in advance with the Dimplex project planning department in order to achieve maximum system safety and efficiency during operation and is a basic prerequisite for commissioning by the Dimplex factory service.

In terms of investment costs, cascading standardised heat pumps is often more cost-effective than project-specific custom models. The EHPA seal of quality guarantees a high standard of quality with verifiable efficiency and sound values, which in many cases are a prerequisite for state subsidies.
